We finance our projects with donations and subsidy. We don't have a profit motive and our board members do not receive any financial compensation. More about his can be read at the financial accountability on our website.
The finances are managed by the treasury. During the board meetings we discuss the future plans of our foundation. The treasurer is, in agreement with the daily board (chairman and/or treasurer), free to finance projects that have been discussed during the board meetings. The budget is accessible to all board members and on every moment can they have insight in the bank details of the foundation.
Goals Mawteni Foundation
With our foundations we would like to connect people with different cultural backgrounds. We will look at what binds people and want to work building a more balanced society.
We try to reach our goals first of all in Nijmegen and surroundings, but we would also like to achieve these outside of this area in the longer term. We focus on what Nijmegen and refugees connect to each other in the first instance.
We would like to reach our goal by creating bilateral contacts, through means of organizing activities like music, dance, singing, theater, thematic meetings, communal meals and other possible cultural and social-cultural activities.
Current state of being
In the previous year we as Mawteni Foundation have focused ourselves to address the public by giving performances in public spaces, organizing communal meals, give music and language lessons and enable discussions. During these activities we have been able to connect people with diverse backgrounds with each other, in order for them to meet. Coming years we would like to continue this so we can reach out to more people.
2020 was not an easy year for us. Due to Corona a lot of our activities have been halted for a year. We hope to be able to continue our activities in 2021 and be able to expand on these. These plans and the requirements are elaborated below.
Meals
Before the corona measures, we organized a weekly meal at OBG Nijmegen and we had plans to also have this at different locations. We would like to restart this and extend it to e.g. the community center Hatert and the Apostolic Society. With these meals we would like to let Dutch people taste a bit of another culture and we would also like to facilitate connection through eating together, with possibly some added music.
For this is required:
Thematic meetings
Besides the meals at specific locations we also organize thematic meetings for our own and outsiders. During these meetings food, music and contact with each other will be central. For the coming period we would like to organize at least ten of these meetings, for which we e.g. will invite another organization to eat together/make music/play games together for an evening.
For this is needed:
Music lessons, language lessons and tutoring
We would like to offer more music lessons, language lessons and tutoring to dancers and the children of the concerning families who would like to have this. Through this manner we can elaborate our own expertise and we can offer youth something concrete through which they can develop themselves.

Professionalize
We would like to professionalize the foundation in different areas. The website has to be maintained so it will be more user friendly. We also would like to create appealing videos so others would have a quicker impression of who we are and so we can reach a wider public.

Recruiting new volunteers
In order to execute our plans we are strongly dependent on volunteers. For the coming years we want to work more with project leaders when we start a new project. For this we need to recruit people who have interest in this and can deal with a certain amount of responsibility. Besides that we are always searching for people who can help in bringing and taking people without transport, (helping with) cooking,help with creating promotion material, etc. In order to recruit these people we make use of different platforms where we can place our advert or our flyer.
Because our volunteers will anyway work with a more vulnerable group of people and they willl often also work with children, we think it's important to get to know them well before they can work for us. For this we would like to meet extensively. Through e.g. have meals with newer and older volunteers.

Performances
We would like to continue performing. We would like to see if we can work with schools and other Dutch dance and theater groups. We would like to have contact with Verspiegeling (Nijmegen), Bindkracht 10 (Nijmegen) and Kunst van Samenleven in order to use the offers that are already in place.

- Travel expenses for people who travel for a long distance
- Other commodities (music installation, games, snacks, etc.)
Music lessons, language lessons and tutoring
We would like to offer more music lessons, language lessons and tutoring to dancers and the children of the concerning families who would like to have this. Through this manner we can elaborate our own expertise and we can offer youth something concrete through which they can develop themselves.
For this is required:
- A location, this will be taken care of by Diaconie Nijmegen
- Music instruments, mainly guitar, keyboard and violin. Piano is available at the office.
- Teachers are volunteers, a compensation might be required

- People who want to help
